While we can all agree that cutting tofu into cubes and crisping it up with cornstarch is a classic and delicious way to enjoy tofu, making tofu fillets is one of my new favourite (and easy!) ways to enjoy it. The soy maple glaze is absolutely delicious, and everything comes together in 40 minutes. Serve with your favourite side dishes, such as roasted or steamed veggies, rice, and salad, and enjoy!
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 25 minutes
Servings: 6 fillets
Ingredients
- 2 blocks extra-firm tofu (about 350g each)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
- 3-4 cloves of garlic
Soy Maple Glaze
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 3 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
Equipment
- Baking sheet
Instructions
- Cut each tofu block lengthwise into 1/2-3/4 inch fillets, to make 6 fillets in total.
- Score the fillets by making diagonal cuts, only halfway through the fillets to make sure they don’t break.
- Prepare the marinade with olive oil, soy sauce and 3-4 cloves of minced garlic.
- Marinate the tofu in a large container while you preheat the oven to 375F.
- Bake the tofu on a lined baking sheet for 25 minutes.
- While it’s in the oven, you can prepare side dishes such as steamed or roasted vegetables and rice to serve with the tofu.
- Add all the glaze ingredients to a bowl and mix.
- Once the tofu is golden brown, remove from the oven.
- Serve with your sides of choice, then drizzle with a generous amount of glaze and enjoy!
Notes
*For a gluten-free version, substitute tamari for soy sauce.
