This homemade berry chia jam is made up of only 3 ingredients, is refined sugar free and takes less than an hour to make. Store the jam jars in the fridge for up to 4 days (or in the freezer if you’d like them to last longer), and enjoy on toasts, pancakes, cereal, and more! With this recipe, you can use your berries of choice (I’ve used strawberries and blueberries and made a jar of jam with each).
Prep time: 5 minutes
Set time: 30 minutes
Servings: 2 jam jars
Ingredients
Strawberry jam
- 1 1/2 cups frozen strawberries
- 2 tbsp chia seeds
- 2-3 tsp maple syrup
Blueberry jam
- 1 1/2 cups frozen blueberries
- 2 tbsp chia seeds
- 2-3 tsp maple syrup
Equipment
- Jars or containers
Instructions
- Add frozen strawberries to a bowl and frozen blueberries to another bowl.
- Thaw in the microwave for 2-2 1/2 minutes, until the fruit is completely thawed (there should be liquid at the bottom).
- Mash the thawed fruit with a fork.
- Add 2 tbsp of chia seeds to each bowl along with maple syrup (start with 2 tsp, adding more if you like it very sweet!), then mix well until the chia seeds are combined with the fruit.
- Let set for 30 minutes – this allows the chia seeds to expand and form a jam-like consistency with the fruit.
- Store in airtight containers in the fridge for 3-4 days. If you’d like to store them longer, I recommend freezing the jam in jars (or in an ice cube tray), and placing them in the fridge to thaw a few hours before you’d like to eat the jam.
Notes
*You can also skip the maple syrup altogether for a less sweet version – the fruit is already sweet!
*You can use any berries or frozen fruit to make homemade berry chia jam. My favourites are blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries, but feel free to try others and let me know how they are!
